One of my favorite player is retired today; Imogen Bankier (Scotland). Pertama kali gue nonton dia pas World Championship 2011 & saat itu dia mengalahkan Owi/Butet bersama Chris Adcock (England). Gue nonton dia dari babak awal sampai akhirnya mereka sampai ke final bertemu Zhang Nan/ Zhao Yunlei, The King & Queen of Mixed Double. Gue pikir mereka hanya beruntung karena bertemu unseeded player sampai akhirnya mereka bertemu Owi/Butet dan akhirnya mereka menang & bertemu ZZ di final & kalah. 

Imogen adalah salah satu pemain top Scotland yang telah menjuarai berbagai turnamen nasional. Namun prestasi tertingginya adalah medali perak kejuaraan dunia. Gaya bermainnya yang agresif di depan net ini lah yang sempat membuat Owi/Butet kewalahan hingga akhirnya kalah di semifinal saat itu. Sejak itu, karirnya meroket hingga akhirnya berhasil menjadi pemain yang dikirim ke Olimpiade & masuk 10 besar dunia.

Namun karena tidak sepakat dengan program pelatihan jangka panjang Great Britain setelah kekalahan di Olimpiade 2012, maka ia memutuskan untuk berpisah dengan Chris & kembali ke Skotland berpasangan dengan Robert Blair mempersiapkan Commonwealth Games. Di turnamen ini, ia meraih medali perunggu, sedangkan Chris yang berpasangan dengan istrinya, Gabby Adcock, meraih medali emas. 

Setelah tidak mengikuti turnamen superseries tahun ini, termasuk Indonesia SS, akhirnya hari ini (24/12/2015), Imogen Bankier resmi pensiun dari bulutangkis. Sejak setahun ini, ia mulai menekuni bisnis wiski ayahnya di Paris.

Bulutangkisku yang Kusayang

Musti banyak narik dan buang napas serta istighfar untuk artikel yang satu ini: bulutangkis atau badminton. Soalnya tahun 2015 memberikan sedikit harapan dan banyak kejutan. Iya kalo kejutannya menyenangkan, ini enggak, ngenes tepatnya.

Dua pasangan Indonesia di papan atas, Ahsan/Hendra & Owi/Butet, adalah barometer prestasi Indonesia secara keseluruhan. Surprise! Surprise! Owi/ Butet hanya menjuarai Kejuaraan Asia & Indonesia Master GPG. Selebihnya hanya jadi runner-up bahkan kalah di babak awal. Kejuaraan Dunia yang diselenggarakan di Jakarta bahkan hanya sampai semifinal. So much burden on them though.

Sedangkan Ahsan/Hendra lebih beruntung. Pada akhirnya Hendra melengkapi gelarnya dengan menjuarai All England tahun ini. Tak hanya itu, wajah Indonesia terselamatkan sebagai tuan rumah Kejurdu setelah mereka menjuarai untuk kedua kalinya sebagai pasangan. Mereka juga menjuarai Dubai World Superseries Finals 2015 setelah di semifinal mengalahkan musuh bebuyutan Lee Yong Dae/ Yoo Yong Seong dengan pertandingan luar biasa (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF4WtG-34RE)

Selebihnya, gue harus angkat topi dengan tunggal putra muda a.k.a barisan dedek-dedek gemes semacam Ihsan Maulana Mustofa & Anthony Ginting. Mereka bisa tembus sampai perempat final superseries sebagai pemain kualifikasi. Harapan gue semoga mereka tetap fokus bermain dan nggak direcokin sama hal-hal yang berbau selebritas karena sampai di titik ini, mereka sudah banyak berkorban. Jangan sampai hanya karena ngetop sedikit jadi nggak fokus. Perjalanan masih panjang, Dek. Welcome to the world tournament.

Satu pasangan lagi, Greysia Polii/Nitya Maheswari yang memberikan kejutan dengan menjuarai Korea SS. Beberapa kali pasangan ini memberikan perlawanan di tengah dominasi China walaupun kandas di babak perempat maupun semifinal.

Selebihnya, prestasi bulutangkis kita masih kembang kempis. Apapun yang dilakukan PBSI, bagaimana pembinaannya atlet dan sebagainya, satu hal yang mendesak yang harusnya dilakukan adalah regenerasi. Sudah mulai terlihat di tunggal putra namun masih suram di partai lainnya.

Tapiiii…., satu hal yang membuat gue senang tahun ini dikarenakan dominasi China perlahan runtuh. Terutama di tunggal putri di mana mereka sempat menempatkan 3 pemain di rangking teratas dan selalu mendominasi tempat di semifinal & final. It’s a good sign for all of us. Ketika berpikir bahwa nggak akan ada yang bisa meruntuhkan dominasi China, kemudian masuklah Carolina Marin (Spain) & Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand). Masih ada pula Saina Nehwal (India) dan Nozomi Okuhara (Japan) yang secara mengejutkan menjuarai Japan SS dan Superseries Finals. Tapi tahun ini jelas milik Carolina Marin yang menjuarai 5 superseries & Kejuaraan Dunia. Sedangkan Ratchanok menjuarai Kejuaraan Asia & Indonesia SS.

Apa mungkin karena itu ya China malah merajai ganda putri? Karena siapapun pasangannya, mereka pasti menang. Setidaknya China menjuarai 10 superseries dari pasangan yang berbeda. Jepang, Indonesia dan Korea hanya kebagian masing-masing 1 gelar.

Ganda campuran pun didominasi oleh China, sedangkan Owi/Butet tercatat tidak menjuarai satu pun turnamen SS tahun ini. Justru malah pemain Hongkong Lee Chun Hei/ Chau Hoi Wah yang menjuarai Australia SS serta pasangan Korea & Denmark. Chris/Gabby Adcock yang tidak pernah menjuarai SS justru memberi kejutan dengan menjuarai World Superseries Finals yang di antaranya mengalahkan Owi/Butet di babak kualifikasi.

Setelah luluh lantah di turnamen superseries tahun ini dengan hanya menjuarai 4 gelar SS, gue berharap semoga kerja keras atlet kita mulai terbayar & keberuntungan menyinggahi. Amen. Amen. Doa akan terus gue panjatkan untuk Liliyana Natsir yang akan bertarung di Olimpiade Rio 2016. Yes, finally we will welcome the Olympic Year of 2016. It feels it was just yesterday from Olympic London that broke our heart but here we are, so close, so nervous yet so excited.

My Favorite YouTube Channel

Wow, 2015 is almost over and again I still don’t have anything to post until today. Hopefully I can share something in my mind before the end of this year.

I just realized that the reason I am so lazy to write is because I love to spend my free time to watch YouTube channel. So I was thinking I should share some of my favorite channel to you. These are some of the channels that I always open every day before I start working/ teaching:

1.     Steve Harvey

You might not know him but he is one of the funniest person I ever know. He has a day time TV show that has several segment such as Ask Steve, Just One More Thing, The Panel, Deal Breaker, etc. He considers himself as a CLO (Chief Love Officer). He helps a lot of single person to meet up and set them up on a date.

What I like the most of this show is Ask Steve while the audiences ask question to him and he answers with his own hood way. I also a big fan of The Panel when he brings some of women to discuss about particular subjects.

2.     Wendy Williams Show

I love with one of the segment and I always check every time I have time to be in front of the laptop whether she has new upload on Hot Topics. This segment discusses celebrity current topics and give her honest opinions. Her motto is Say It Like You Mean It (SILYMI). Her signature is a mug of tea that she mixes with hard candy. I just recently follow her channel because I am so into Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani in the first place. After that, I always check her upload to find out more on other celebrity.

4.     Entertainment Tonight

6.     The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Since Jimmy Fallon took Tonight Show after Jay Leno, he was announced as Entertainer of the Year 2014. I like several of his segment such as Box of Lies, Slap Black Jack, Music Impersonate, Lip Sync Battle, Phone Booth, and many more. A lot of guests has attended his show such as Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Lawrence, and many more. Most of them will also play a game created by him.
